On the job …

Technical Communicator? Information Architect? Content Contributer? Content Manager? Programmer?

All of the above!

I write topics in XML (Arbortext or TextPad) and assemble them into various information projects using an industrial-strength content management system (Documentum).

I contribute original content to an internal wiki, and informally manage a couple other sites for technical contributors.

Content areas include programmer how-to’s and reference material, database administration, system administration, and installation. I use all the tools I write about.

Programmatically, I work with Eclipse; Perl; MS Access, Word and VBA; HTML, XML, and XSLT. I can stumble through a few other languages.

I’m currently designing new doc forms for a programmer/ business analyst audience who will be using a proprietary, specification-based, pattern language to develop custom business applications. I’m working on tools and processes for ‘harvesting’ SME contributions to the body of user knowledge about my company’s products. Another project/pet interest: replacing traditional printed doc with online help and hosted InfoCenters.

If you’re working in any of these areas, I’d love to hear from you and share insights — send me a link to your blog!
